I was asked to contribute to this project from the perspective of making it an enjoyable and active place to be. One of my passions is sustainability and I knew that people in South Surrey were forced to drive to Richmond or Langley for better shopping. I know from running a hospitality business that the less time people spend in their cars, especially on the weekends, the more they can relax and do the things they want with their time.
Clearly if you live downtown you have so many more choices, with an array of shops, restaurants, lounges, coffeehouses and gathering places. However it seemed to me that people of all ages, who chose to live in the suburbs, want many of the same things. Surely living out here doesn’t have to mean a life of conformity and endless cul-de-sacs. I saw that we could combine the animation of a living village with the peace and nature of South Surrey. This is what Morgan Crossing has grown to be.
